Including a Blog on an e-commerce site

When helping my friend improve his website and search rankings, I wanted to include a blog feature to provide regularly updated content. I envisioned including post about artists that endorse his guitar lines when they were coming to our area for concerts (or maybe even, heaven-forbid, in-store appearances at other stores). I had planned to work on his website from the comforts of my home office and Mac. I found several suitable easy-to-use programs that were web based on fit the bill. But my friend had a strong desire to go with one that he had used in the infancy days of the internet, and with which he was comfortable. It would reportedly meet my needs, as well as give him comfort in not learning something new.

Alas, the program did not allow me access to the website until it was complete and uploaded onto the web host. Many of the graphics that had been inserted don’t appear to like my Mac-standard Safari browser. And now I learn that if I want to include a blog, I will need to upgrade the service package we already pay for. So I checked in with two other providers, register.com and godaddy.com and neither one seems to offer a template site that includes a blog.

Since blogs are no longer cutting edge, does this mean they are already passe?
